Are spammers getting smarter everyday or are we just ignoring them in our mailbox?

I’ve been asking myself why am I getting a lot of spam in my Yahoo Mail account and a few spam in my Gmail account. I do not use these e-mails for filling web forms of some weird sites. I know,.. i’m sure! But why?

Note: Forum Nokia is not a spam e-mail :)

Years ago when Yahoo Mail implemented their anti-spam feature, I was so delighted to see that most of the junk I’ve been receiving has been minimized. There are times that I got no spam at all! So I began to use my Yahoo Mail account for everything. Then I got a Gmail invite from a friend. I tried it for a couple of weeks and turns out it is the e-mail service I really wanted! Spam free, tag-based e-mail classification, search features… I just love Gmail! Because all of my buddies are using Yahoo IM, I’m forced to maintain my Yahoo account mostly for instant messaging.

Now, I’m getting a lot of spam in my inbox! It seems that Yahoo Mail’s antispam feature is broken or something.. Maybe, just maybe… spammers are smarter nowadays that they can fool algorithms developed by top engineers. Or maybe, I’m just too lazy to click the “This is a spam” feature to help antispam systems learn and add to their “intellegence”. On Gmail, I get like 3 spam e-mails per week. Good thing with Gmail is that they have a slick interface and so I got no problem clicking the “This is a spam” button as often as I like!

Don’t ignore spam,… click the “This is a spam” button…. and we shall live ever-net-after!
