iPod Touch knockoff released months ago

iPod Touch Riff-Off
Last week, Apple released the iPod Touch (ipod-ala-iphone-minus-phone-capability) but it’s surprising to know that riff-off experts from China has done it again. They have released the iPod Touch riff-off on Amazon months before Apple made the announcement At a price tag of less than $120, that’s almost 1/3 of iPod Touch’s price!

I just finished posting about the the new iPod Touch and we already have a rip off from China. Ironically it is available on Amazon and by looking at the page it looks as if it was available since quite some time now. I sure admire their speed as even before Apple launched the iPod Touch they were ready with a rip-off. Apart from the flimsy icons it is indistinguishable from the real thing, it has a 2.8 inch touchscreen, 2 GB which stores 200 songs, Mini SD expansion slot (something which the iPod lacks), FM Radio, built in speaker and support for MP3, WMA, MPEG-4(AVI) and JPEG formats.

iTunes 7.4.1 ringtones workaround discovered

Via Engadget:

Fourty Eight (48) hours after Apple released iTunes 7.4.1 with it’s supposed ability to block renaming ringtones. a workaround has already been discovered.
The limitation should prevent people from copying (and playing) tones not bought on iTunes Music Store

First, follow the steps of the original method

* Create your ringtone, save it as an AAC file.
* Rename the m4a extension to m4r.
* Double-click to play in iTunes.

Now, if you’re upgraded to 7.4.1

* Go back and re-rename that m4r file back to m4a. That’s it.
* Plug in your iPhone and that ringtone will be added to your syncable ringtones list — and it won’t pop up the error from before.
* Play your ringtones constantly for the next 10 hours until 7.4.2 comes out.
