Tip: Completely Secure Your Gmail Session

I’ve been a Gmail user for quite some time already. I love the interface and logging in is as secure as I want it to be. However, once a user has provided the correct user name and password, the system redirect the request to a unsecure site for accessing the mails. That’s not good. I don’t know why Google is doing that but I just don’t like my emails being sent as clear-text to and from my terminal.

Recently, I figured out a way to redirect to the secure version of the mail interface. To do that, type https://mail.google.com/mail on your browser’s address bar or click here. Now, your browser will be redirected to an SSL secured version of the mail interface upon a successful login.

Google Gears: The rise of JavaScript-powered offline applications

Following emerging development in online/offline computing like Adobe’s Apollo platform or Microsoft’s Silverlight platform, Google releases Gears which will allow developers to create applications using JavaScript that will run in offline mode and could synchronize to a remote application (e.g. server application) when available.

Google Gears group writes:

Google Gears allows developers to enhance their AJAX applications to be able to run even when their users are offline. This is the official discussion group for web developers interested in using Google Gears in their applications.

Google Gears provides application programming interface (APIs) for offline application access and data storage (using SQLlite). Licensed: BSD

Whew! After months of on and off blogging, Google finally gaved me a PR 3 rating today(? not so sure about the exact index update). I used to have a PR0 rating so I guess having a PR3 is a big jump.

Thank you very much Google for that wonderful 3/10! Most importantly, thank you to all the incoming links and blog readers.
